We've sent our PaintballNews.Asia insiders out to retrieve behind-the-scenes news about all things paintball. As we reported last time in our rumour section, ProMasters is all but a forgotten memory since the boys behind WPPL cancelled their backing of the event. It seems the organisers dismissed their original management team (which caused WPPL to jump ship) and the new management team had to scramble to find a suitable tournament promoter to help provide the necessary infrastructure to hold the event. Both MYNPL and PALS promoters declined invitations to take part. Considering how much money the Sultan was offering the back this event, it's a shame we didn't get to see the Pro teams come to town.
There's so much World Cup Asia gossip we could spend days writing about it... let's just say their were more injuries sustained off the field than on, many traders were left counting coins due to poor sales and the high cost of coming to WCA and more than a few teams were upset about over-zealous international refs and score sheets. We'll leave it at that.
Other news that has surfaced is that MYNPL are looking into align themselves more with the USA PSP formats, which is no surprise since the 5 man, race-to-format has become the standard worldwide. While no changes have been announced for the 2012 season, you may see this happen in 2013? WPPL will also be re-formatting their divisions to include Divisions 4, 3 and 2 after calls from players for balanced competition. MPOC/PALS are also changing some of their race-to-formats for 2012. Div 2 will increase to Race-to-3, Div 3 will introduce Race-to-2 with Div 4 remaining a Race-to-1 format. Also big news is that Nemesis Legion are joining forces with MPOC for the season opening event for 2012 which is a first.
How will this effect your team for 2012? PaintballNews.Asia will be doing our annual interview with the movers & shakers of Asian paintball asking them the hard questions. Stay tuned.
