Xtioneers Win PALS Thailand

PALS Thailand 2013 has quickly become one of the most popular tournaments on the Asian circuit. In its 3rd year, the event featured 42 teams from over 10 countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Australia, USA, Iran, Vietnam, Russia, Malaysia, France and Singapore. US Pro players Jerry Devarieux, Oliver Lang, Bobby Aviles, Tim Montressor, Yosh Rau and Damian Ryan made the long journey to conduct a  paintball clinic and compete as the American Dream Team playing in Division 1. The opportunity to compete against some of the world's best paintballers was welcomed with a strong line-up of 15 international teams registering for Division 1.

Competing for the first time on the Asian circuit were D1 team Tehran from where else but Iran. Also playing for the first time in Bangkok were all girls team Destiny from the U.S. playing in Division 2. It was also good to see 3 teams from Vietnam playing in Division 3 which is testiment to how quickly their paintball scene is developing. Also sponsoring and attending the event were a host of International paintball vendors, media and refs, making for a truly globally renowned and professionally organised paintball tournament.

The new-look Express Way Paintball Park was again the location for PALS Thailand 2013. With scorching humid weather hitting 35 degrees Celcius during the prelims, plenty of fluids and the odd baby pool was the order of the day. Two days of preliminary matches sorted out the Top 8 in each division to compete in the finals on Sunday. The girls from Destiny did well during the prelims beating some seasoned Asian teams and making it to Sunday. The Division 1 Top 8 was packed with previous winners of either a PALS or Asian tournaments or both, one of the toughest finals line-ups in recent history. The American Dream Team won all their matches leaving a lot of Division 1 players with more than a few stories to tell of how they won points against the Pros but being special guests, The Dream Team did not compete in the final Top 8.

Making it to the Top 4 in Division 1 were Datis (Iran), Xtioneers (Malaysia), Infernal and Destroyer both from Thailand. Datis defeated last year's WCA winners Infernal in the first semi-final and Xtioneers defeated Destoyer in the second semi-final. In the Division 1 final Xtioneers proved too strong for Datis and took the PALS Thailand 2013 title. Playing for the Xtioneers over the weekend were Impact / Impact Echo players Kameron George and Dakota Mclearn, both who just happen to be living in Phuket at the moment. They joined seasoned Xtioneers players and some of the Xtioneers new faces and coach Ahmad Shazerain Zahar of Grammaton Clerics fame to cement a well fought PALS tournament win.

PALS Thailand has stamped its mark as one of the premier tournaments in the world to attend so organisers should be proud of themselves,
